From finding room for a table to getting it playing right. Practical answers about moving, setup, felt, and bumpers.
01 / Make room to play
Most tables we assemble go into spaces smaller than the recommended sizes below. For recreational play, a slightly smaller room can still work well.
Browse pool tables for your space →These dimensions are recommended for a standard 58-inch cue. Your skill level, style of play, and preferred cue all influence how much clearance you want.
| Table size | Approx. recommended room size |
|---|---|
| 7-foot | 13′ × 16′ |
| 8-foot | 13′ × 17′ |
| Oversized 8-foot | 13′ × 17′ |
| 9-foot | 14′ × 18′ |
Treat this as a guide for full-length-cue play, not a minimum room requirement. A smaller space may mean using a shorter cue for some shots near walls or furniture. Share your room dimensions and how you like to play—we can help you consider the tradeoffs.
Measure the playing surface between the cushion noses, in both directions—not the outside edges of the rails. Then measure the clear space available in the room and note any obstructions. Send those measurements with a photo if you are unsure of the table's nominal size or whether the layout will work.
Yes. For recreational play, a shorter cue can be a practical way to handle shots near a wall, post, or furniture. How often you need it depends on the layout. If you want to use a particular full-length cue throughout a game, aim for the room sizes recommended for that cue length. The choice is about the playing experience you want, not simply whether your room meets the chart.
The original reference also shows approximate room sizes for 48-inch and 52-inch cues. Use it to compare clearance for different cue lengths, rather than as a pass-or-fail test for a recreational room.
02 / From here to there
Protecting the table is important. Getting it assembled and playing correctly matters just as much.
Explore moving services →Ask whether they specifically handle pool-table disassembly, slate transport, reassembly, and leveling. A pool table is not ordinary furniture: the heavy slate and table construction require the right handling and tools. Brookwell handles pool-table moving and setup, including precision leveling at the destination.
For a typical slate table, lifting or transporting it assembled can strain the frame and legs, shift or damage the slate, and disturb the playing surface. Stairs and narrow access add difficulty. The right approach depends on the table's construction, so have the table assessed before trying to move it intact—even within the same room.
Yes. Brookwell handles disassembly and reassembly for flooring projects, as well as table moves involving storage. Tell us what work is happening, where the table needs to go, and whether setup is needed immediately or at a later date so the work can be scoped correctly.
Yes—precision leveling is part of Brookwell's table setup. Moving the pieces is only part of the job; the table also needs to be assembled and leveled at its new location. Mention any existing roll, slate-seam, or stability concerns when requesting a quote.
03 / Get the feel right
Cloth affects how the table plays. Cushions affect how it responds. Plan the work together when needed.
Compare felt options →Choose the specific cloth that suits your play, expectations, and budget—not just the category name. Tell us how the table is used and what you like or dislike about its current feel. Our refelting page explains the available options so you can make a more useful comparison.
No. The cloth prices on the refelting page are material costs, not the complete service price. Request a quote for your table and location to confirm the full scope and cost of the work.
Weak or uneven rebound, a dull sound on impact, and visible deterioration can point to cushion problems, but they are not a diagnosis on their own. Tell us what you are noticing and send a full-table photo plus any useful close-ups. Bumper replacement is quoted for the individual job.
The felt on the rails must be replaced when the bumpers are replaced. That does not automatically mean the cloth on the table bed also needs replacement. Let us know the bed cloth's condition and whether you want a full refelt so the work can be planned together.
Almost always. Brookwell primarily performs this work on-site. Tell us your location and any access or workspace concerns when you get in touch; we will confirm the arrangement for your job.
04 / Plan the next step
A little context helps us understand the work. You do not need to know every detail before reaching out.
Start with the service you need and the table's location. Helpful details include:
That is okay—do not guess. Send a photo of the whole table and any visible badge or label. If practical, include the playing-surface measurements between the cushions. We can start with the information you have and identify what else is needed.
Check our locations page, or send your city and the work you need help with. For a move, include both the pickup and delivery locations. We will confirm whether the job fits our service area and schedule.
Use the form below or call (833) 400-1135. Describe the table and the work you have in mind. Moves are by appointment; requesting a quote starts the conversation so the scope and timing can be confirmed.

The table, the route, access at both locations, and the work required all matter. Tell us whether you need a complete move, disassembly only, or setup after storage, along with any cloth work. We will confirm the scope and pricing for your job.
Yes. Brookwell handles disassembly and reassembly as well as full moves. This can be useful for flooring projects or a table coming out of storage. Explain where the table is, its current state, and the work you need so the right service can be planned.
Include these details for both ends of the move before arrangements are finalized. Photos of the access route can help us understand the job. The approach depends on the table and the space; we will confirm access requirements for your move.
That depends on the existing cloth and the work required. Tell us about its condition and whether you would like to keep it or change it. Cloth requirements can be assessed as part of planning the job. Explore our refelting options if you are considering new cloth.
Visit our locations page or send the pickup and delivery locations with your inquiry. We will confirm whether the job fits our service area and schedule.
